The 2026 Oscars® nominations- a year of firsts

Earlier today, Oscar®-nominated actress Danielle Brooks and actor Lewis Pullman took the stage to announce the nominees for the 98th Oscars® hosted by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

 Leading the field of nominees is "Sinners," a horror film set in 1930s Mississippi and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, which earned a record-breaking 16 nominations. "One Battle After Another" was next with 13 nominations. Both films' directors, Ryan Coogler and Paul Thomas Anderson, respectively, received nominations for Best Director. Other Best Director nominees include Chloe Zhou ("Hamnet"), Joachim Trier ("Sentimental Value"), and Josh Safdie ("Marty Supreme").

 Brooks and Pullman also announced a new Awards category: Best Casting. The inaugural class of nominees for Best Casting included Nina Gold ("Hamnet"), Jennifer Venditti ("Marty Supreme"), Cassandra Kulukundis ("One Battle After Another"), Gabriel Domingues ("The Secret Agent"), and Francine Maisler ("Sinners").

 Several of this year’s acting nominees are celebrating their first-ever Oscar® nominations. Among the notable first-time nominees are veteran artists Delroy Lindo (Best Supporting Actor, "Sinners") and Stellan Skarsgård (Best Supporting Actor, "Sentimental Value"). Other first-time nominees include Jordan for his lead roles in "Sinners," and one of the film’s leading ladies, Wunmi Mosaku, also earned her first nomination for Best Supporting Actress.  Other first time nominees include quadruple threat Teyana Taylor (Best Supporting Actress, "One Battle After Another"), Elle Fanning (Best Supporting Actress, "Sentimental Value"), Rose Byrne (Best Actress, "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You"), Jacob Elordi (Best Supporting Actor, "Frankenstein"), Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Best Supporting Actress, "Sentimental Value"), Renate Reinsve (Best Actress, "Sentimental Value"), and Golden Globe Best Actor winner Wagner Moura for his role in "The Secret Agent." Coogler also marks his first Oscar® nomination for Best Director with "Sinners."

The 98th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby® Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The show will air live on ABC and will stream on Hulu. Conan O'Brien will host.
